  • How much exercise for a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever? My mom and I absolutely love the gundog group -- we have a senior chocolate lab. We are thinking of getting a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever because we like the idea of a smaller retriever. However, I am kind of confused because when researching I read a lot of people comparing NSDTR to border collies... that's kind of worrying because I know how non-stop a border collie is, and although I have time to give plenty of exercise each day I can't really go all day because I do work. Anyway, so this was my lab's schedule until he turned seven years old and slowed down a lot, and I'm wondering if it would be fit for a toller (assuming it's no longer a tiny puppy): During the week: -30 minute brisk morning walk before I leave -20 minute afternoon stroll with my mom -30-45 minutes of off-leash time at the park right after I come home -15-30 minutes of training On weekends: -1-2 hours at the park in the morning for lots of swimming and fetching OR a hike OR a bike ride or some other fun adventure!! =) -30 minute brisk walk in the evening -15-30 minutes of training I love my dogs and I love being active. I just want to make sure I don't take on too much! I do unfortunately work during the week. My mom stays at home and is able to take the dog out for a stroll in the afternoon and pee breaks but I'm the one that does the majority of the work. Thank you so much for any advice!! =) Poppy: Yeah, I was surprised to hear it! I think it's because they need more exercise then goldens and labs so people don't want potential owners to think they're just mini goldens.
